Fix Puppy Biting Fast

Fix Puppy Biting Fast — The Balanced Training Way

Puppy biting may look cute at eight weeks, but left unchecked it becomes a lifetime habit. The good news? You can stop it fast with structure, timing, and clarity.

Here’s how I coach clients to end biting and build calm focus:

1️⃣ Timing is everything. When your puppy puts their mouth on you, calmly say “No.” Pause two seconds, then redirect to a toy. This shows what’s off-limits vs approved.

2️⃣ Use their hunger drive. Short sessions before meals sharpen focus. A hungry puppy is a motivated learner—use kibble for calm engagement.

3️⃣ Avoid rough play. Wrestling or hand games teach that biting equals fun. Keep play structured — use toys, not skin.

4️⃣ Leash guidance indoors. A short leash lets you calmly interrupt biting or over-arousal. Don’t yell or chase; guide and redirect.

5️⃣ Teach the “Out” cue. Offer a toy, say “Out,” and trade for food when they release. Practice daily.

6️⃣ Structured rest. Most biting comes from overstimulation or fatigue. Kennel rest teaches self-control and settling.

Puppies don’t learn from chaos—they learn from consistency.
